This weeks Artisan is so amazingly talented. I just had to share her very beautiful work with you. She weaves, sews, crochets, works in clay, illustrates, paints, recycles, designs... she is an all round very skilled person. Her shop has an eclectic mix of stunningly gorgeous works in it that make me smile just to see them. Imagine how much joy they would bring if you owned some of them! So who is this lady? It's Heidi of Heidi Moon.
1. Could you please introduce us to who you are and what you do?
I live in the Highlands of Scotland, amongst beautiful trees and hills, with my partner and four children. I make clothes and accessories out of reclaimed and recycled fabrics, jewellery from clay and found objects, and larger one off clay vessels and sculptures. I am very inspired by organic forms and nature.
2. What led you to take up your craft?
I've always made things. From an early age I made clay pots and animals, and I was constantly drawing. I come from a very artistic family, so it kind of rubbed off onto me!
Art and creativity is a huge part of my life!
3. Which part of your work do you most enjoy?
The thing I enjoy about what I do is the freedom I have to express myself in whatever material I wish and to be able to create something that is individual and handmade.....I also love connecting with other artistic people and I've found many on-line friends through Flickr and Etsy!
The fact that I'm selling my work is a big encouragement and it makes me happy that people are wearing and enjoying something that I've made!
4. Which part do you find hardest?
The hardest part of my work is not having enough hours in the day! I'd really like to be able to stay awake through the night and make things. Apart from that my work is easy!
Being a mother is the hardest work I've ever had to do!
5. Where do you hope to be in 1 year’s time?
I try not to think about the future too much, as I take each day as it comes, but in a year or so I'd love to be a bit more organized , be making more, and selling more...and for my family to be happy too of course! I've also had a dream to have a fashion show...but that's maybe a bit too ambitious!
6. What is the best advice you have ever been given?
I've often been told to listen to my intuition and my heart, and to be true to myself....to be individual and not a clone. My partner gives me advice about the business side of things, which I appreciate because that's not one of my strong points!
7. Could you please name other artisans sites/shops would you recommend are worth a visit?
How many can I list?
As many as you like.
I have to put some of my friends in ....who I love!!!
Secret Superheros - Illustrator
Red 2 White - Fibre artist
Aileen Clarke Crafts - Cards and Fused Fabric Artist
and a few etsy shops I think are FAB!
Scrap Dannymansmith - Recycling artist and clothes maker
Nesting Emily - Potter and clay artist
Round Rabbit - Porcelain jewellery artisan
Art to Wear Diva - Bags, Jewellery and hats
Kat Wise - Recycled Clothing designer.
Irregular Expressions - Free-form fibre artist
Folk - One of a kind clothing, accessories and art.
8. What is your favourite sandwich filling?
I don't eat many sandwiches...but when I do I like a big crunchy salad one with lots of mayo and seasoning....olives, spinach, rocket, maybe some cheese or hummus...as much as possible on seeded bread!
Thank you Heidi for joining in with our blog and sharing your beautiful work with us. I'm not sure when you, as a mother of 4, find the time to make all these amazing pieces, but I'm very glad you do. You work is stunningly beautiful! I've loved the links you gave us to all your favourite shops. You have introduced me to many more fabulous artisans, thank you! I look forward to seeing your Fashion show... because I have no doubt you will have one. Maybe we could arrange an independent artisan fashion show for recycled clothing and goods. You would definitely be on the top of my list of people to invite to show.

I love Heidi's creations ♥ Everything she makes contains a special magic - whimsical and full of stories and nature spirit. I have a gorgeous little bag of hers, and I am looking forward to getting a custom skirt from her very soon... and plan to have one of her clay birdie necklaces too!
